How to Install Fabric on Minecraft 1.21.6 (Client)

Want to use Fabric mods in Minecraft 1.21.6? Here’s how to get started quickly and safely on your own computer (Windows, macOS, or Linux).

🧱 What Is Fabric?

Fabric is a mod loader that allows Minecraft to run lightweight, flexible mods. It’s similar to Forge, but often used for simpler or performance-focused mods. For version 1.21.6, the latest Fabric Loader is 0.16.14, and most mods require Fabric API, too.

🔒 Before You Start

  • Backup your worlds (go to .minecraft/saves and copy the folder somewhere safe)
  • Close Minecraft Launcher
  • Be patient: Most mods may take time to update for 1.21.6

🛠 How to Install Fabric (Step-by-Step)

1. Download the Fabric Installer

Go to the official site:

  • Click the “Download for Windows” button if you’re on Windows (use .EXE)
  • On macOS or Linux? Use the Universal .JAR version instead

2. Run the Fabric Installer

  • Select the Client tab
  • Set Minecraft version to 1.21.6
  • Leave loader version as the default (should be 0.16.14)
  • Make sure the Minecraft path is correct
  • ✅ Click Install

You should see a message saying “Successfully installed!”

3. Launch Minecraft Once

  • Open the Minecraft Launcher
  • Select the new “fabric-loader-1.21.6” profile
  • Click Play and wait for the game to load
  • Then close the game — this step creates the needed mods folder

4. Download and Add Fabric API

Almost all Fabric mods need Fabric API. Download it from:
(make sure it matches Minecraft 1.21.6)

Move the downloaded .jar file to this folder:
📁 C:\Users\<You>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mods
(macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods)
(Linux: ~/.minecraft/mods)

5. Add Other Mods (Optional)

Download any other Fabric mods you want (from CurseForge or Modrinth).
Put them in the same mods folder with Fabric API.

6. Play and Enjoy!

  • Open the Minecraft Launcher
  • Choose the Fabric profile
  • Click Play
  • If you installed a mod like Mod Menu, you’ll see a “Mods” button on the title screen
