A knife is the most versatile tool in DayZ. Without one, you cannot easily open cans of food, skin animals for meat, or create a fire starter. If you must engage, use a Stealth Kill by sneaking up behind an Infected with a sharp weapon for a one-hit execution. This prevents a horde from swarming your position and keeps you hidden from nearby players.
