Spigot is a fork of CraftBukkit, the original API for Minecraft server plugins.
It adds performance optimizations and server management utilities. Although CraftBukkit is no longer actively developed as a standalone project, SpigotMC continues to maintain it, and Spigot has become a popular choice for plugin-based servers.
