How to Create Automatic Backups

This guide will show you how to properly set up automatic backups in your server.

Note that we also have a guide here explaining scheduled tasks.

Also, please note that the server will keep just the latest three backups. After that, the backups will start getting overwritten so just the latest three are kept.

Setting Up Automatic Backups

To set up automatic backups you need to:

  1. Log in to your Pterodactyl here and stop your server.

  1. Click on Scheduled Tasks, then Create Schedule.

  1. Give it a meaningful name and click on Create Schedule.

You can switch the box Show Cheatsheet to see what the boxes mean.
Feel free to also tick on/off Only When Server Is Online to allow the server to create backups even if the server is offline.
On the example above, we are creating Daily backups.

  1. Click on Manage Schedule.
  1. Click on New Task.
  1. Set the action to Create Backupand click on Create Task.

IMPORTANT: This will create a backup of ALL your server files, if you only want to create a backup of your current world, please manage the Ignored Files & Directories, or use ” * ” to ignore all the files and then ” ! ” to add add the files you want to be backed up.

Example below:

Make sure you rename it to your actual world!
Please keep in mind that server types such as Spigot/Paper generates the dimensions outside the world folder. If your world is named “world” the dimensions will be generated as “world_nether” and “world_the_end”.

That’s it! Now your server has a scheduled task to happen daily.
And a task of Create Backup!
