How to Create a Backup of Your World

Do you want to save your files safely and have a copy? Then it is recommended to always have a backup! This article will show you how to make one.

Note that we recommend you do a backup anytime before changing the server type!

Also, please note that autosaves are not backups, these overwrite the already saved files in the world folder so the server can keep up with your progress. So autosaves are not backups and you can not restore them.

We have a guide explaining the difference between autosaves and a backup here.

How to Create a Backup of You World

To create a backup please do the following:

  1. Login in your Pterodactyl Panel here and stop your server.

  1. Click on Backups, then on Create Backup.

To remove certain files or directories, add them to the Ignored Files & Directories, or use ” * ” to ignore all the files and then ” ! ” to add add the files you want to be backed up.

Make sure you rename it to your actual world!
Keep in mind that server types such as Spigot/Paper generates the dimensions outside the world folder. If your world is named “world” the dimensions will be generated as “world_nether” and “world_the_end”.
