Hytale Crafting Guide: How to Make Your First Tools and Crude Pickaxe
Hytale has finally arrived, and with it comes a revolutionary new crafting system. Unlike the grid-based recipes you might know from Minecraft, Hytale uses a more intuitive “Pocket Crafting” and workstation-based approach. You don’t need to remember specific patterns; you simply need the right materials in your inventory. In this guide, we will walk you through gathering basic resources to craft your very first essential tool: the Crude Pickaxe.
Step 1: Open Your Inventory and View Recipes
To begin your journey in Orbis, you first need to see what you can build. Press the TAB key on your keyboard to open your character inventory. On the right-hand side, you will see your “Pocket Crafting” menu. Locate the Crude Pickaxe to see the required ingredients: 2 Stone Rubbles, 2 Plant Fibers, and 2 Sticks.
Step 2: Collect Sticks from the Ground
Sticks are a fundamental building block for early-game handles. You don’t need an axe to get these; simply look at the ground in forested or grassy areas. When you see a fallen branch, walk up to it and press the F key (the default interact key) to add it to your inventory.
Step 3: Gather Plant Fiber from Vegetation
Plant Fiber acts as the “string” or binding for your primitive tools. You can find this by destroying small plants, tall grass, or bushes found throughout Zone 1. You can break these by hand; once destroyed, they will drop Plant Fiber for you to collect.
Step 4: Find Stone Rubbles Near Rock Formations
Stone Rubble is the “head” of your pickaxe. Look for small pebbles or loose stones near larger rock outcrops or cliffs. Much like sticks, these can be picked up by hand, or you can break small surface rocks to force them to drop rubbles.
Step 5: Use Pocket Crafting to Build the Pickaxe
With all the materials in your inventory, press TAB once more. Select the Crude Pickaxe from your crafting list. Since you have the 2 Rubbles, 2 Fibers, and 2 Sticks, the Craft button will now be active. Click it to begin the short crafting process.
Step 6: Equip Your New Tool
Congratulations! You have successfully crafted your first piece of Hytale technology. The Crude Pickaxe will now appear in your inventory or hotbar. You can now use this to mine actual stone blocks and even find early-game ores like copper to upgrade your gear further.
