The Copper Golem was supposed to be Minecraft’s next great innovation — a redstone buddy, an item sorter, and a quirky new mob all in one. But now, just days after its first test version was released, the community is already in chaos.
From broken mechanics to missing features, Minecraft’s newest mob is at the center of a storm — and some players are even calling for its complete removal.
Let’s break it down.
What Was Promised vs. What We Got
The Copper Golem first appeared in concept years ago, with Mojang teasing a mob that could interact with redstone components like buttons and levers. Simple, functional, and a redstone-lover’s dream.
Fast forward to now: Mojang has officially added the Copper Golem to the Copper Update, alongside copper chests and tools. This new Golem can sort items and interact with containers… kind of.
But players quickly noticed: it doesn’t behave as expected. Not only is the redstone feature gone, but oxidation doesn’t seem to affect its behavior at all.
Originally, it was teased that:
- Copper Golems would rust over time.
- The more oxidized, the slower they’d become.
- Eventually, they’d turn into statues unless polished with an axe or treated with wax.
Right now? None of that works.
The Sorting System Is Broken
Content creators and technical players tried building auto-sorting systems using Copper Golems — but bugs started piling up:
- Golems get stuck in place.
- They fail to recognize nearby chests.
- They open the same chest multiple times, skipping others.
- Basic pathfinding is inconsistent or broken.
- They can’t even escape water, and often die without completing any tasks.
Silentwisperer, a well-known redstone YouTuber, pointed out that even basic mechanics like remembering the last opened chest are missing. He described red-colored chests (a visual cue) as those that “never open or rarely open.” This makes building automated item systems extremely unreliable.
Community Reaction: From Frustrated to Furious
With the mob’s current version being buggy, lacking core mechanics, and drifting far from the original concept, many Minecraft players are starting to lose patience. Some are even asking Mojang to:
“Scrap the current Copper Golem and go back to the redstone button-presser idea.”
But let’s hold our horses.
Remember: This Is Just a Preview Build
What we’re seeing now is just the first test version of the Copper Golem — not the final snapshot, not the release version. The Java Edition hasn’t even received the Golem yet.
There are still three full months before the update officially drops.
Mojang released this early version specifically to gather feedback and identify bugs. So while it’s true that the Golem is currently full of problems, there’s still plenty of time to refine and optimize its behavior.
Should Mojang Cancel the Copper Golem?
No — at least not yet.
Yes, it’s buggy.
Yes, it lacks the oxidation mechanics we were promised.
Yes, the sorting AI is unreliable.
But this is exactly why preview builds exist. Mojang is collecting data and feedback from players to improve the mob before launch.
And let’s not forget: Mojang has a history of iterating fast once the testing phase begins.
Final Thoughts
If you’re frustrated with the Copper Golem right now, that’s fair — but don’t write it off just yet. Mojang still has time to optimize its behavior, fix its bugs, and deliver a mob that’s both functional and fun.
Until then, try not to drown your Golems.
