Stage 1: World Creation
Your first step in Terraria is creating a softcore character, avoid journey mode unless you want creative tools. The medium core is punishing, and the hardcore is for expert players only.
Choosing World Settings:
- Size: Small or medium for the best experience.
- Evil Biome: Corruption is slightly easier, but both work fine.
- Difficulty: Normal mode is recommended for beginners; Expert and above are much harder.
Create your world and prepare for an adventure!
Stage 2: The Early Game
Upon entering your world, you’ll meet the Guide NPC, who provides crafting tips. Use the crafting button to learn new recipes by placing items in the interface.
Key Early Tasks:
- Build a House – Protect yourself from nighttime enemies.
- Explore the World – Chop trees, mine ores, and plunder chests.
- Equip Accessories – Found in chests, these grant useful abilities.
- Look for Gems – Can be crafted into a special mobility-enhancing tool.
Boss Preparation:
The first bosses can spawn randomly:
- One after an event where enemies fall from the sky.
- Another can appear randomly at night.
- Bows and arrows (especially ice-based ones) can be effective.
Stage 3: The Not-So-Early Game
After defeating your first boss, it’s time to venture into Corruption or Crimson.
- Look for glowing orbs or hearts – Breaking them provides loot but also triggers the biome boss after a few are destroyed.
- Dungeons – The old man at the entrance has a secret; interact with him at night.
- NPCs and Pylons – Happy NPCs sell pylons, which enable fast travel between towns.
- Jungle Exploration – Optional but rewarding boss and loot await.
Stage 4: Late Pre-Hardmode
Your next goal is reaching the Underworld:
- Mine Hellstone Ore for powerful gear.
- Find a Shadow Key in the Dungeon to open special chests.
- Discover a way to summon the final Pre-Hardmode boss (Hint: it involves a voodoo-related item).
- Build a long platform in preparation for the boss fight.
Defeating the boss will transform your world, unlocking new enemies, bosses, and loot.
Stage 5: The Start of Hardmode
With the Spirits of Light and Dark unleashed, your weapons will feel weaker. Follow these steps:
- Use the hammer dropped from the last boss to smash special alters in the Corruption/Crimson.
- New ores will spawn – Mine and craft gear tier-by-tier.
- Armor choices – Sets now have different helmets for different playstyles.
- Look to the Sky – Powerful enemies drop materials for wings, a necessity in Hardmode.
- Three Hardmode Bosses must be defeated before progressing further. Check the Guide NPC’s crafting menu with iron or lead bars to see their summoning items.
Stage 6: Mastering Hardmode
With the three bosses defeated, the Jungle Grows Restless, hinting at your next objective:
- Mine the new green ore, but hold off on crafting full armor sets.
- Destroy suspicious-looking objects in the Jungle for a boss fight.
- Be prepared – This boss requires a large arena.
- Post-Boss Dungeon Changes – New enemies and loot appear after the fight.
- Jungle Temple Exploration – Requires a key from the previous boss.
- Beware deadly traps! – More dangerous than enemies inside.
- Temple Boss Fight – Drops valuable loot and leads to the final phase of the game.
Stage 7: The Final Frontier
With the Temple boss defeated, a new invasion appears, bringing powerful items, including a mount that flies indefinitely.
- Return to the Dungeon – New powerful foes arrive.
- Summon the final boss trigger (Hint: your instincts will guide you).
- Four Celestial Pillars spawn, requiring you to defeat their minions first.
- Craft Lunar Weapons – These are the strongest in the game.
- Prepare for the final fight – Once all pillars are destroyed, the last boss spawns in one minute.
- Defeating the final boss marks you as a true Terraria veteran!
