If slimes arenβt spawning in your swamp biome, youβre not alone. Slime spawn conditions in Minecraft Bedrock Edition are very specific, especially in swamps, and many players miss at least one crucial requirement. This guide explains why slimes might not be spawning, how to fix the issue, and also introduces slime chunks as a reliable alternative.

π Where Do Slimes Spawn in Minecraft Bedrock?
Slimes can spawn in the following locations:
- Swamp and Mangrove Swamp biomes
- Slime chunks (underground below Y=40)
- Trial Chambers (via trial spawners)
- When an entity dies with the Oozing effect
β Slime Spawn Conditions in Swamps
Slimes only spawn in very specific conditions in swamp biomes. Missing even one of these can prevent them from appearing.
π 1. Moon Phase
- Slimes spawn most during a Full Moon
- No slimes will spawn during a New Moon
- This mechanic is fully functional in Bedrock Edition
π§ The game uses the moonβs brightness to determine whether slimes can spawn, based on a random calculation.
π 2. Correct Altitude
- Slimes only spawn between Y=51 and Y=69
- Being outside this range means no spawns, even if everything else is correct
π‘ 3. Light Level
- The light level must be 7 or less
- This is more forgiving than standard hostile mobs (which require level 0), but still important
- Torches and natural light can prevent spawning if too bright
𧱠4. Spawn Area Must Be Clear
Slimes need a 3Γ2.1Γ3 block area with no solid or liquid blocks.
Even things like:
- Trapdoors
- Glass panes
- Buttons
…can prevent slimes from spawning if inside this space
β Why Slimes Might Still Not Be Spawning
Hereβs a quick checklist:
Condition | Requirement | β |
---|---|---|
Y-Level | Between Y=51β69 in swamp | |
Moon Phase | Not a new moon, ideally full moon | |
Light Level | 7 or lower | |
Clear Spawn Space | 3Γ2.1Γ3, completely obstruction-free | |
Nearby Players | More than 24 blocks away |
If you meet all of these, slimes have a 50% chance to spawn on valid blocks.
π§ Slime Chunks in Bedrock Edition
If swamps are unreliable, consider building your farm in a slime chunk.
π Slime Chunk Details:
- Slimes spawn below Y=40 in these special chunks
- They ignore light levels and moon phase
- About 1 in 10 chunks is a slime chunk
- In Bedrock, slime chunks are the same in every world (not seed-dependent)
π How to Find a Slime Chunk:
Thereβs no command to reveal slime chunks in Bedrock, but you can:
- Use external slime chunk finder tools (like Chunk Base)
- Dig below Y=40 and observe where slimes naturally spawn
Once found, dig out a spawn area, light surrounding caves, and watch the slime magic happen.
π§ͺ Bonus: Trial Spawners and Oozing
Starting in Minecraft 1.21, slimes can also spawn via:
- Trial spawners (25% chance the chamber uses slimes)
- The Oozing effect (when a mob dies, two medium slimes spawn)
This is mostly useful for adventurers and less for farming, but itβs a cool feature to explore!
