By default, Terraria servers are open to the public, meaning anyone with your IP address can join. To increase the security of your server and prevent unwanted players from entering, you can set a password. This ensures only those with the correct password can access your server.
Changing Your Terraria Server Password
You can easily change your server’s password through the Terraria Server Properties in the Config section of your control panel.
- Log in to your server’s control panel and STOP the server.
- Click on the “Files” section in the left-hand side menu of your panel.
- Open the “serverconfig.txt” file and find the setting labeled “password”.
- Add the new password you want players to use.
- Once done, click Save.
- Restart your server to activate the new password.

Once your server restarts, only players with the new password will be able to join.
