How to Change the Server Name on Your OpenTTD Server

Your server name is how your transport empire is identified in the OpenTTD public server list. A clear and unique name helps friends find your game and attracts new competitors to join your matches. Using the GGServers panel, you can update this name in seconds. Follow these steps to change your OpenTTD server name.

Step 1: Access the GGServers Panel and Stop Your Server

Log in to your account at the GGServers Control Panel. Before editing any configuration files or settings, you must Stop your server. This ensures that the new name is correctly saved to the openttd.cfg file and broadcasted when the server restarts.

Step 2: Navigate to Server Settings

On the left-hand navigation sidebar, click on the Server Settings button. This will expand the management options for your OpenTTD instance.

Step 3: Open the General Settings Tab

From the submenu, click on the General Settings tab. This section contains the primary identity settings for your server, allowing you to avoid editing complex configuration files manually.

Step 4: Update the Server Name

Locate the box labeled Server Name. Enter your desired name for the server. The GGServers panel features an auto-save system, so your new name is stored immediately once you finish typing.

Step 5: Start Your Server

Once you have entered the name, return to the main dashboard and click Start. Your OpenTTD server will now appear in the multiplayer server browser with its updated name!
