How to Change the Server Description on Your OpenRCT2 Server

While your server name grabs a player’s attention, the Server Description provides the vital details they need before joining. This text appears when players hover over your server in the master list, making it the perfect place to list your park rules, discord links, or current project goals. Using the GGServers panel, you can update this information in seconds. Follow the steps below to customize your server’s description.

Step 1: Access the Panel

Log in to your GGServers Control Panel and select your OpenRCT2 server. This dashboard is where you manage your server’s public information and player communication.

Step 2: Stop Your Server

To ensure the new description is correctly saved and broadcasted to the master list, you must first stop the server. Click the red Stop button on the main console. Wait for the status indicator to show “Offline” before proceeding.

Step 3: Navigate to Server Settings

On the left-hand navigation sidebar, click on the Server Settings button. This menu contains the primary configuration categories for your OpenRCT2 instance.

Step 4: Open General Settings

In the Server Settings area, select the General Settings tab. This section manages the fundamental rules for your server, including identity and visibility options.

Step 5: Change the “Server Description” Setting

Locate the box labeled Server Description. Enter the text you want players to see when they hover over your server in the list. The GGServers panel features an automatic save function, so your new description will be recorded the moment you finish typing in the box.

Step 6: That is it!

Your server’s description has been updated! Return to the main dashboard and click Start. Your OpenRCT2 server will now display your custom information to anyone browsing the multiplayer list.
