{"id":12860,"date":"2019-05-29T08:15:41","date_gmt":"2019-05-29T08:15:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test2.gginternal.net\/knowledgebase\/article\/how-to-use-a-custom-domain-url-with-your-server-using-namecheap\/"},"modified":"2019-05-29T08:15:41","modified_gmt":"2019-05-29T08:15:41","slug":"how-to-use-a-custom-domain-url-with-your-server-using-namecheap","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/article\/how-to-use-a-custom-domain-url-with-your-server-using-namecheap\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Use a Custom Domain (URL) with Your Server Using Namecheap"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/banner10_1mgbruh.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This guide will help you set up on your server a custom domain using Namecheap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">  Setting Up a URL  <\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>We want to set up a domain (URL) so our friends can connect to our server with just the URL, like <code>mydomain.com<\/code> without any of this <code>198.758.43.3:3532<\/code> nonsense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What you need to do:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to your Namecheap domain list: <a href=\"https:\/\/ap.www.namecheap.com\/domains\/list\/\">https:\/\/ap.www.namecheap.com\/domains\/list\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>Find the domain (URL) you want to use, and click <code>Manage<\/code>:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/9182ec94-8668-4d80-b527-ad95ea_ei53jl.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li>Click on <code>Advanced DNS<\/code>:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/1f1b7a3a-368f-4352-860e-6760aa_d0c0es.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You should see something like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/eb5681e9-f56e-4a4a-8b55-7570cf_1pdry52.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\">\n<li>We want to add a record. Click on <code>Add New Record<\/code>:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/74b36a7e-f48a-4fda-a064-78852e_19ads8x.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\">\n<li>We\u2019ll be adding what is called an <code>A<\/code> record. This tells other people\u2019s computers where to find your server on the internet. Click on <code>A Record<\/code>, then add <code>@<\/code> to the <code>host<\/code> field.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/72613e11-56c3-4353-a54d-fe50ef_teo6yd.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"6\">\n<li>For the <code>Value<\/code> field, we need an IP Address from your server. Find your server by logging in here: <a href=\"https:\/\/mc.ggservers.com\/index.php?r=server\/index\">https:\/\/mc.ggservers.com\/index.php?r=server\/index<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"7\">\n<li>Once you have opened your server, you want to find the line that says <code>IP<\/code> and has a number next to it. It should look something like this:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/newipred_17jriy7.jpg\" alt=\"IP Address\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"8\">\n<li>You want to copy and paste the number to the <strong>left<\/strong> of the colon <strong>exactly<\/strong> as it is here into the field that says <code>Value<\/code>. Click the check-mark to finish.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/c1dcbcc0-cac9-4c14-ac0f-7ba4f9_r6k0qg.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"9\">\n<li>Now, we have a URL pointing to our server.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/newportred_1vi0c7x.jpg\" alt=\"Port\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, I could connect to my server using my URL and the port number like this: <code>mydomain.com:25698<\/code> But, what\u2019s the fun in that? We want people to be able to connect just by typing in <code>mydomain.com<\/code>. If it says anything other than <code>25565<\/code> for your <code>port<\/code> here, we need to do a little more work to make the URL work right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">  Setting Up a Nice URL  <\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You will have to do the following steps:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We want to go back to our domain in Namecheap and click <code>Add Record<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/4fc3a738-3cc1-454e-934d-57098d_12d0vj3.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>Scroll down on the list and click <code>SRV Record<\/code>. This is a service record, we\u2019re telling the world that our Minecraft server is at <code>mydomain.com:port<\/code> but we\u2019re calling it <code>mydomain.com<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/66e3b55a-bc7f-4af8-8578-5d365c_houisd.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now we have a bunch of text boxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/f1a6a554-5570-498b-88ae-0f4a17_vqepla.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li>For the <code>Service<\/code> box we want to add <code>_minecraft<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\">\n<li>For the <code>Protocol<\/code> box we want to add <code>_tcp<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\">\n<li>For the <code>Priority<\/code> box we want to add <code>0<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"6\">\n<li>For the <code>Weight<\/code> box we want to add <code>5<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"7\">\n<li>For the <code>Port<\/code> box we want to add the <code>port<\/code> you can find on your server using the number to the right of the colon:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/newportred_15llecw.jpg\" alt=\"Port\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"8\">\n<li>In the <code>Target<\/code> box add your domain (URL). It\u2019ll look something like <code>mydomain.com<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>You should have something like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ggservers.com\/knowledgebase\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/da5dad8d-a00f-4e32-8c38-356264_4hbo1b.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"9\">\n<li>Hit the check-mark and you\u2019re done! It may take up to 30 minutes to work.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you can connect to your website using just your domain (URL) without needing any fancy numbers or special symbols.
