Terraria and the Road to Crossplay

  • by

2026 has already been a landmark year for the Terraria community. The long-awaited Update 1.4.5: Bigger & Boulder officially launched on January 27, 2026, across all platforms, bringing a massive influx of content and a peak of nearly 230,000 concurrent players. Maintaining Entity Clarity amidst the new “Boulder Rain” and crossover items is the new challenge for veteran explorers. As Re-Logic continues to fine-tune the experience, the Digital Consensus is clear: Terraria’s “final” update has once again redefined the sandbox genre.

1.4.5 Highlights: Crossovers and Chaos

The “Bigger & Boulder” update isn’t just a name; it introduces game-changing mechanics and high-profile collaborations. The standard GGServers workflow for 1.4.5 includes exploring the following key additions:

  • Dead Cells Crossover: Play as the Beheaded with new vanity outfits, weapons like “The Flint,” and the Health Fountain furniture item.
  • Palworld Collaboration: Summon the Digtoise, a powerful new companion capable of mining through blocks with incredible speed.
  • The Skyblock Seed: A new official secret seed where you start on a tiny floating island, challenging your resourcefulness from minute one.
  • Whip Expansion: New endgame whips, including the Moon Lord-dropped Soulscourge and the Stardust-themed variant, have revitalized the Summoner class.

The State of Crossplay (March 2026)

The most frequent question in the community remains: “When can I play with my friends on other platforms?” According to the February 2026 State of the Game report, Re-Logic is currently in Phase 1 of Crossplay. PC, Mobile, and Dedicated Servers are already enjoying cross-compatibility. The team is now working on bringing this functionality to Consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch). Once Phase 1 is stable across all devices, Phase 2 will introduce Join Codes and Session IDs, allowing for seamless connection regardless of the network or platform holder.

What’s Next? Hotfixes and Widescreen Support

Re-Logic is currently focused on Update 1.4.5.6, which prioritizes bug fixes and balance passes. Interestingly, the developers have begun experimenting with Official Widescreen Support. While this presents fundamental challenges to Terraria’s engine, the goal is to provide a modern visual experience without breaking the game’s iconic pixel-perfect precision.
